Read reviews and forum posts of how cruddy the UI is Windows 8 Consumer Preview, I didn't think it could possibly be nearly that bad. Having ran the Developer Preview a few weeks back, I liked what I saw, Metro wasn't a huge part of the UI and wasn't that big of a deal, but what fuck Microsoft??
Having now used the Consumer Preview for about a week, there's some things that bug me a great deal, and see no getting used to:
There's no start menu, why is there no start menu?
You have to rely HEAVILY on the Metro App window to do anything. Why?
The ribbon, great in Office but the hell do I have to go through all these different submenues just to change the folder view from list to thumbnails view?
Why is their no Skip option of file operations requesting permissions?
Why is the details pane on the right now? Why is their no option to move it where-ever the heck you want it? Sure it can be done fairly easily with a simple registry tweak or modded shell, but why change it anyway?
Again why is there no start menu?
Why is there no sort of menu at all? Would I really want to type in Control Panel or Windows Update? Surely wouldn't want to type everything in on a tablet, let alone on a computer where using a mouse to do anything is a fundamental and harmonious concept since the dawn of modern computing.
Why is there no start menu?
Dear Bill,
Return to Microsoft and personally fire every person responsible for this atrocity of an UI without any sort of severance package.
